Richmond’s yasoda Lanka smashes double century


Yasoda Lanka from Richmond College, Galle slammed a magnificent double century as Sri Lanka Under 19 piled up a mammoth 542 against the visiting England Under 19 in the second cricket Test at P. Sara Stadium today.
The exciting right hander plundered 24 boundaries and a six in 297 balls as made a solid 213 before being the ninth man out.
Lanka shared 166 runs for the third wicket with skipper Bhanuka Rajapakse who made 129 off 166 balls with 12 boundaries and three sixes.
England provided a bold reply, racing to 158 for 2 by stumps on the second day with opener Sam Wood unbeaten on 110.
It was another match dominated by the batsmen similar to the first Youth Test played at the Galle International Stadium where Lanka scored 80 and Rajapakse scored 149 apart from 84 by Dananjaya de Silva, another player from Richmond who made 42 today after opening the innings.

Lanka also put on 84 runs stand for the eighth wicket with Amila Aponso in the morning session.
Later he was associated in another 50 runs stand for the ninth wicket with Supechala Jayatileke before he was dismissed. Spinners Jack Parsons and Gurman Randhawa along with Shiv Thakor shared the wickets for England.
England in their turn were given a solid start by openers Sam Wood and Daniel Bell-Drummond who together put on 94 before being separated with the dismissal of the latter.
Sam Wood continued to frustrate the Sri Lankan bowlers as they ended the day making 158 for 2 with Wood unbeaten on 110 from 129 balls which had 19 boundaries and a six.
