Sri Lanka achieved one of the greatest comebacks in the history of ODI cricket after a remarkable one-wicket win on Wednesday against Australia in Melbourne.
In front of thousands of ecstatic Sri Lanka fans, Angelo Mathews (77 not out) and Lasith Malinga (56) added 132 runs for the ninth wicket, as the visitors recovered from 107-8 after debutant Xavier Doherty had taken 4-46.
Malinga was dramatically run out with just one run required for victory, before Muttiah Muralidaran struck the winning runs with 5.4 overs remaining.
Earlier Mike Hussey's 71 not out had helped Australia to 239-8 off 50 overs with Thisara Perera in outstanding form as he took 5-46.
