Dubai Super Sixes !

Crayons Communication Dubai, is proud to announce the nation’s first ever Super Sixes cricket tournament. Home to a number of high-profile sports initiatives, Dubai is now set to add another milestone to its long list with 48 corporate cricket teams from the region battling it out to win the inaugural Dubai Super Sixes 2010.

Playing alongside with them will be some of the biggest international players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia. The matches kick off at the state-of-art Dubai International Cricket Stadium from 29th September all the way through to the 15thOctober 2010. Played under the auspices of Dubai Cricket Council, the tournament promises action packed entertainment and breathtaking cricket.
A knockout format tournament, it will feature 48 corporate teams, each consisting of 6 players along with two substitutes and the opportunity to choose five neutral fielders from a large pool of players.
Playing under the supervision of neutral umpires, the format requires each team to play a limited 5 over innings that needs to be completed in 30 minutes with each player besides the wicket keeper bowling an over. The entire match lasts 70 minutes.
The eight teams that reach the quarter finals will each be assigned a top cricket player, who will play alongside the teams. This will give them an opportunity to rub shoulders with their cricketing heroes and get a first hand experience. The tournament is open to all organizations in UAE and the participating teams are encouraged to have one member of the senior management as a part of their team.
Speaking at a press conference held in Dubai’s Media Rotana Hotel today, Wasim Akram, former Pakistan captain and Brand Ambassador of Dubai Super Sixes 2010, said that the fast-paced tournament was an excellent opportunity for the region’s most talented sportsmen among the corporate teams to play along with their role models and unite the many local-level sports events under the umbrella of Dubai Sports City.
“Cricket remains a passion for many expatriates in this region and we are pleased to see a growing number of companies putting greater emphasis on supporting this positive trend,” Akram said. “By interacting and playing alongside their role models during the tournament, corporate teams in the region have the opportunity to experience the game as it should be played, under world-class conditions.”
To be held at the majestic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the 25,000 seater venue offers world-class facilities and promises to add to the enthusiasm of the participants and the international players alike.
“Fresh from the success of our recent event, ‘Cricket Dialogues with Harsha Bhogle’, we are now enlarging our involvement with the sport,” explained Arshad Zaheer, Managing Director of Crayons Communications. “This time round, we are proud to present an innovative concept in cricket which promises to provide all-round entertainment to the contestants, their families and spectators.”
“Following the first tournament, we are keen to evolve this concept as an annual event and broaden its scope to allow a larger number of teams to participate,” Zaheer added.
To enter the tournament or for sponsorship opportunities or information, one can contact Ms. Ekta Hasija (050-5380304) or Suresh Bhura (050-1800360). Participating teams will be selected only on a first-come-first-served basis.
Gulf Oil is the main sponsor of Dubai Super Sixes and Dubai Sports City is the venue partner while Media Rotana is the Hospitality partner and Edward Steven & Associates are the public relations partners.
The unique format of Dubai Super Sixes is globally owned by Ignitee Digital Sports. The entire event is organized by Crayons Communications, Dubai.
