Shane Shillingford's bowling action found to be illegal

The International Cricket Council today confirmed that an independent test had found the bowling action of the West Indies' off-spinner Shane Shillingford to be illegal and, as such, the player has been suspended from bowling in international cricket.

A comprehensive analysis revealed that his mean elbow extension was 17 degrees which is above the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the relevant regulations.

Shillingford can now apply for re-assessment of his action after he has modified is bowling action in accordance with clause 2.4 of the regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.

The independent analysis was performed by Prof. Bruce Elliott, member of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists, at the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health, University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth on 9 December.

Shillingford was reported after the end of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka last month by on-field umpires Steve Davis of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and Richard Kettleborough of the Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires, along with TV umpire Asad Rauf, also from the elite panel, and fourth umpire Tyron Wijewardena.

The 27-year-old from Dominica has the right to appeal against UWA's conclusions to the Bowling Review Group, in accordance with clause 2.3 of the regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions. Should he choose to appeal, he must lodge written notification with the ICC within 14 days of receiving the report.

Sri Lanka Cricket is keen on using the UDRS for WI series

 Sri Lanka Cricket is keen on using the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) for this month's series against West Indies.
SLC Interim Committee secretary Nishantha Ranatunga  said "We are keen to have the DRS system for the West Indies tour and we are working towards making it a reality,"  
Ranatunga said he has been made to understand by Ten Sports that the Hawk-eye technology, which is required to implement the DRS system, isn't freely available all the time. It has to be hired from an international company which owns it and there is also the cost factor to be considered in installing it.
"The ICC has said that it is prepared to bear part of the cost and we are hopeful that Ten Sports can have the system in place," Ranatunga said.Hawk-eye is a system which traces a ball's trajectory, with a claimed accuracy of 5 mm, and sends it to a virtual-reality machine.
It uses six or more computer-linked television cameras situated around the field. The computer reads the video in real time, and tracks the path of the ball on each camera. These six separate views are then combined together to produce an accurate 3D representation of the path of the ball.  Mean while British Eurosport has secured the UK rights to the Test series between Sri Lanka and West Indies which gets underway on Monday, November 15.

Sri Lanka Masters enter finals in Windies

Sri Lanka Masters led by Marvan Atapattu will meet West Indies Masters in the finals of CLOBI Cup Masters T20 cricket tournament at Kensington Oval Barbados.

Sri Lanka Masters beat the hosts West Indies by two runs in a thrilling final preliminary round match as both teams qualified for the final.

The Sunday night’s defeat was the first loss for the strong West Indies in the tournament. Playing at Kensington Oval, West Indies finished on 155 for six in pursuit of 158 for victory, after Sri Lanka had been sent in.

Despite the loss, West Indies still entered the final against the Sri Lankans at the same venue tonight.

Sherwin Campbell top-scored with 59 off 45 balls while Floyd Reifer stroked 54 from 45 balls, as they took the hosts to the brink of victory after a poor start to their run chase.

Openers Junior Murray (5) and Rawl Lewis (8) fell cheaply but Campbell and Reifer added 108 from 79 balls for the third wicket to rebuild the innings. While the right-handed Campbell counted six fours, the left-handed Reifer carved out three fours and two sixes.

WI Women won the ICC Women's Cricket Challenge

West Indies raced to an impressive eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka to claim the title in twenty20 leg of the ICC Women's Cricket Challenge on Saturday. In the other play-offs, South Africa finished third beating Pakistan by six wickets and Ireland got the better of Netherlands by 42 runs to finish fifth. 

But it was West Indies' day as it took on Sri Lanka in the first place play-off and were well served by its spin attack. All the West Indies bowlers shared the spoils as Sri Lanka was restricted to 83 for nine in 20 overs at the North-West University No 1 Ground. West Indies chased down the target in fine style. Deandra Dottin remained unbeaten on 39 (22b, 5x4, 2x6) and shared a second wicket stand of 46 with Juliana Nero to complete the formalities.

Windies arrive on November 7

The West Indies cricket team will arrive in Sri Lanka on November 7 for a three test series alongside a five match one day series and a T20 international.

Sri Lanka will play two One Day Internationals against West Indies at Sooriyawewa, 

Sri Lanka will play three other one day internationals against West Indies at R. Premadasa Stadium.

The only T20 will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium.

mean while , Pallekale cricket stadium will be a test venue later this year, confirmed Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Nishantha Ranatunga today. Sri Lanka will play the three test matches against West Indies in Galle, R. Premadasa Stadium and pallekale in November and December.
