The International Cricket Council 's chief executives' committee recommended that the number of teams at the Twenty20 World Cup to be increased to 16 teams from the 2012 tournament in Sri Lanka.
They also decided to recommend that the women's World Twenty20 tournament to be run alongside the men's event.
There are plans to create a Twenty20 rankings table as soon as justifiable.
These decision were taken during their two-day meeting in Cape Town and the ICC Borad will now consider the proposals.
